About the Course
Kigali, Rwanda
Welcome to Huron's POL3359, 'Rwanda's Recovery: Experiential Learning in Peacebuilding and Reconciliation'. This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive overview of themes in contemporary debates about post-genocide peacebuilding and reconciliation, including the politics of memorialization, transitional justice, and foreign assistance in reconstruction.
Broken down into two components, the course begins with Huron-based preparation during winter term 2023. Students prepare for their travels by engaging in extensive readings to familiarize themselves with Rwanda’s history, politics, and culture, while also attending several mandatory seminars.
From there, the themes of the course will be brought to life through a trip to Rwanda in May 2023. Following their time in Rwanda, students will use a major essay assignment to engage in critical reflection on their learning experience.
